If a player wants to play NRL, he's got to show he's worth it. He's got to stand out and play consistently well.
Give over. Sure, the NRL is ahead of SL. But if you think it's a full-blown meritocracy you've swallowed too much of the hype.
Ask any Knights fan what they think the single biggest aid to Darius Boyd's career is.
If Warrington sign Savelio, they will do so on a four year deal. Two good seasons for them, then sell him for a few hundred thousand pounds.
If Warrington sign Savelio it will be at an inflated cost for a player who still hasn't locked down a first team jersey. Bear in mind that this is a player who is still
RECOVERING from a debilitating physical and psychological ailment, the ramifications of which are
UNKNOWN. Throw in the fact that he's marking time for the NRL and it's a no-brainer.
You all blindly support the club no matter what they do. I was absolutely bang on about the club neglecting the playing staff post KC/Scully and unless the club starts waking up it's going to happen again. Not only are we not in the bidding for the big names anymore, we're not even managing to keep the young players we produce either. That's a bad combination.
Well ... duh! That's kind of what
"supporters" are meant to do. What are you, some kind of half-assed
"conditional supporter"? As for me
"blindly supporting the club, no matter what they do" - this is a
BARE-FACED LIE and you know it.
Trumpeting how
"bang on" you are in a hysterical rant over losing a player who hasn't even been officially recognised as gone yet is about as plain an example of self-deception as I can think of.
But I'm prepared to play this game and recognise your divine powers of fortune telling if first you can tell me how many times you've been
WRONG.
But hey ho, we've managed to tie down Matty Dawson
For heaven's sake, grow up. You know as well as I do that even if we somehow possessed the finances to assemble the RL equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters - the limits imposed by the salary cap preclude the possibility entirely. Which means
TOUGH, UNSENTIMENTAL and
ADULT decisions have to be made on which players receive the bulk of our salary quota.
The claim that Saints aren't "bidding for the big names" or that "we're not managing to keep the young players" is pure fantasy.
In any case, these are
PROFESSIONAL rugby league players. Whilst their motivations will vary the issue of
MONEY will be at the top of many's requirements. And if another club is willing to pay above the market rate you can be sure that no amount of "good will" on the club's part will stand in their way of acquiring it.
