The whole thing is a complete fiasco. Three tries given in two games by the video referee which IMO beggar belief.

In the case of Josh Jones we have the video ref ruling for a try despite NEVER seeing the ball grounded at any point. Deferring to the ref's hunch is a sophist's cop-out given that the video referee was brought in precisely BECAUSE refs were making so many bad calls. As for the other two - what next, grounding at the end of a hair follicle? A bead of sweat?

I keep hearing people saying, "You don't need control of the ball" without ever stopping to think how stupid scoring without control of the ball sounds. Especially since Rugby League is a game centered upon ball control.

IMO it should be palm of the hand in full contact with the ball - all the way down - or nothing.

I agree....video refs were meant to bring an end to controversial decisions - in fact the introduction has done nothing else other than add to controversial decisions. At least this time we have consistency....which is in itself a rare commodity. Decisions continue to be subjective rather than objective....and the new ruling of having to be certain to overturn an on field decision (often a 50/50 at best guess - especially with Child) is a farce.

No, I think you're confusing a rule which some don't like, with the video refs' ability to judge according to the rules. There was nothing "controversial" about the fingertip tries of the last two nights, in the sense of how the video referees awarded them. The rules on scoring tries are very clear, and fingertip touches are perfectly legitimate, so the video referee decisions were completely uncontroversial - they applied the rules as they are written and understood. You might consider that the rule should be changed to require a more solid contact with the ball (I don't, but I can see why others might), but that's got nothing to do with the video refs.

As for the Josh Jones decision, I also didn't think that was remotely controversial. First, I seemed fairly clear to me that we could see the ball hitting the ground. Secondly, even if we couldn't, the rule is again very clear that if the ball cannot be seen to be grounded, but might have been (in other words, video is unsighted), then the benefit of the doubt must go to the attacking side. In other words, if it's 50/50 but you can't be sure, then it's a try. Jones's try wasn't a tricky one in my view.

He's not fit enough yet to play in the middle. He's used to doing nothing hardly for 80 mins but that cushy number now gone and he now has to do the hard work.

So if I'm reading this right there are people who would want Achurch's try disallowed despite the fact that he never lost contact with the ball? That seems fair, after all only just touching it is exactly the same as not touching it at all isn't it.

I thought the rule was that there had to be downward pressure on the ball ?

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Uncontrolled scoring is fine. Even if it does sound completely ridiculous.

I can't see anyone but Leeds for the GF win.the only thing that will stop them will be injuries. They looked to cop a few last night to. Sinfeild, Delaney, Peacock, McGuire all seemed to pick one up.
