Catalans are looking good at the moment. IF Saints can beat them next Thursday, it could be the start of a little run, as it's followed by Leeds (awful form), Cas, Salford and Huddersfield. 6 wins on the trot and the confidence should be flooding back (even if the injured players aren't).

I still wish we had a bit of pace, though. Phil Clarke noted that we score a greater proportion of our tries from within 20 metres of the line than any other team in the comp. We have very little long-range strikepower, and that means we'll always be screwed when our forwards can't dominate field position. They did tonight. Indeed, I thought our pack completely beat Warrington's, and Amor, Walmsley and Wilkin had their best games this year. But we won't do that every week, and it'd be nice to make the opposition feel threatened from our own half. At the moment, I've noticed that opposing teams play a really compressed defence against us in the first 60 metres of the field, because they know that even if we were to put it out wide, we don't have the pace to go all the way. That just makes it even harder for our forwards!

We were class. Bossed it throughout I thought. Only some weak defending at times stopped that being far more comfortable. Theo was absolutely outstanding, completely bossed the game. On that evidence he's a stellar prospect, playing like a veteran. Walmsley > Hill, Fages > Gidley tonight which were key battles.

How overdue retirement is old Ben?

Imagine if we had one outside back who was any good. That 1,2,3,4,5 out there tonight was shocking. They did there best lose us the game

I HATE ALL THE PIES

Re: Wire Saints : Sat Apr 09, 2016 12:23 am
I've been a big critic of the performances and KC this year and I make no apologies for that.

Tonight showed a lot of guts from the forwards, completely dominating Wire and a great game from our two HB's with the ball. The backs of course were pretty useless in attack and defence - example the Currie try.

However, we played to our strengths only and never really let our backs near the ball. Having said that I though McDonnell and Dawson both had decent games.

With a 8-3 penalty count against us, our game management (until the last 5 minutes) was very good.
Without decent backs, and if we stick to this game plan, I'm reasonably optimistic about our game against the Cats. At the very least the team's confidence will be up.

I don't mind losing if we aren't dumb and put a real effort in like tonight.

I'm unsure about how much the team's performance was down to KC or just the players though?

Happy days Saddened especially given you have been bagging the team and Cunningham!

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Wire Saints : Sat Apr 09, 2016 6:41 am
Well for me its looking like a very competitive league.
10 games in and Saints are well in the mix of teams jostling for position.
In the next 2 games we could be on equal points with Wire at the top or down at 8th with Wakefield.

Shame I had to miss the last couple of games but it's shaping up to be an interesting season to say the least.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

Its very much lose a couple of pivotal players or half backs and every team fails to function. Leeds, Huddersfield, Cas, Widnes and now Wire struggle without there key player, Wigan keep on winning because of there structure. I can see the league table for 2016 showing up with more loss games than previous years, might only need 18 points to qualify for top 8.
