That statement is legally flawed.

I think that what happens is this, although I may be wrong.

Only the top 25 players wages are counted for salary cap purposes. However if a player from outside those 25, makes a number of first team appearances (I'm not sure how many) then this salary is counted in the clubs salary cap allocation.

Maybe this is what St. Dave is eluding to, or maybe Armstrong does have a clause in his contract that takes him up to the next salary band if he plays 5 first team games or more.

If this was the case, surely he wouldn't have been called up to be 18th man on Friday and someone else would have been?

He was down to play for the reserves, but was then called to be 18th man.

I hope i'm wrong, but i dont think he'll make it at saints, doesn't seem good enough from what i've seen.
