Damn you got in there before my re-edit.

I don't think anyone genuinely Laughs out Loud, but it is an indication of not being serious or taking it in good humour.

I think Smilies and LMAO's are the newest development in punctuation since the semi colon.

Completely agree, however emoticon's are more than appropriate. They are definitely a vital cog when talking via message boards, texting etc...
