Well ... That escalated quickly.

My 2 cents:

Sia has never played prop (other than short bursts when needed) - he has however played at lock multiple times and played through the middle which is where I guess SLS is coming from.

If greenwood keeps up his preseason form, I'm sure that will go a long way to mitigate the loss of Soliola (as the loss of Manu is mitigated by Vea coming good) - Soliola had his flaws as a player as does everyone.

I've read a few times that we've been using the defensive structure of Daniel Anderson in the friendlies, which should be good, but you can't afford to have Mavericks as a result (like Vinnie Anderson) and Sia (and his fondness to miss a tackle) could of become that

Nobody objected ?

I was told straight away my view was 'laughable', followed by statements that I'm a 'very good coach', have a 'superior opinion' and asked whether I'm 'Wayne Bennett'.

Following that I was told I was questioning the commitment of somebody that had ran his blood to water for saying I felt Saints fans overrated him somewhat.

Then finally, a Warrington supporter suggesting that I'm 'hated' on here (for suggesting a player was overrated!!!) was told that he mirrored St Pete's thoughts.

Then come the 'oh, I'm innocent' posts. I like 'Brian' and it's not a slanging match, just a disagreement ! That's truly laughable.

This forum is evidently St Pete's playground. The rest of you dance to the tune and don't query it. Any new folk not towing the line, are faced with what I've had thrown at me, all for suggesting Sia Soliola was overrated a bit by our own supporters. I don't see why anyone should have to put up with it. It's a miracle you get any newbies on here. I can see why there's a distinct lack of any detailed analysis on here; nobody decent would put up with it. As I am now not.

Please, don't patronise me.

Do you even know what 'lock' refers to ? It's an old term, used generally from RU, and refers to somebody locking the scrum. It means nothing else.

It became 'loose' when RL tactics made that player quite a 'loose' position in that they roamed the field. It developed into the 3rd ball handler or 'pivot' in RL as set pieces developed.

The NRL dictates what happens and they began using the full back as the 3rd ball handler so the 'loose' was now an open role. They adopted a tactic where 3 props are on the field at any one time, the 8, 10 and 13. This is what is now happening a bit in the UK. Huddersfield use it a lot. Wane has started it with O'Loughlin out and put Patrick in at 13. Brown took it further where traditional second rowers weren't utilised much, almost not at all in fact. Hence, the 13 and usually, one of the 11 or 12 were playing the middle of the park as well.

I'm amazed that people cannot see it. How often did you see a Saints second rower running the inside centre channel like Joynty or Gilmour once did ? You don't because they played central, with the exception of a couple.

If Soliola was in the back row properly, you'd have seen him running the inside centre channel a lot. He did so on a couple of times, see Cas away where we finally figured out that sending Soliola at Cas' weakest defender (Finn) was a good idea. I'm sure we scored two of our first three tries there through that very process. Prior to it, we had them all playing the middle and fell behind rather sharpish.

A 'loose' forward stops becoming a loose forward when he is no longer loose. When Soliola plays centre field and contributes drives off the ruck, 1st or 2nd man, he is playing prop. It's basic RL knowledge.

Seriously, how many of you people have played or coached this game ?!?!

So we went into games with Richards, Mose, Lms, walmsley, Thompson, sia and Manu as props? That's 7 props in the 17!

When we lost Walsh we had to play a different game. We no longer could play free flowing rugby, we had to grind wins out. We had the likes of wello, lance, turner and flash (FFS) playing in the halves so we played to our strengths which was a forward game down the middle.

Sia didn't play prop but was more central as was all our backrows. He lined up on the team sheet as second row. He took the kick off position as second row. He was actually playing second row. Maybe not on the edges but I can assure you he played second row.

If he plays central always and invariably never moves to the inside centre channel unless through an obvious tactical shift, he's playing at prop. Where he lines up on the team sheet or stands at kick off means nowt.

Anyway, this is going to go on all night. You say he played second row (even though you admit he didn't :) ) and I say he played prop. Let's leave it at that, I can't be arsed anymore with you and your abuse.

Seems he's a second row.

If tommy or swifty take it down the middle, does that make them props?

Hahahaha.

I can't quite believe that's your reposte. Some media articles. Of course they'll label him at back row as that's how he's been utilised for much of his career (or at centre). I haven't said otherwise. What I have said is that last year he was played almost entirely as an extra prop from the back of the scrum. I'm not sure why you take such issue with it ?

Of course Makinson or Swift aren't props. There's a difference between the odd run from dummy half out your twenty and Soliola's regular, over a full season, playing as a 3rd/4th prop, taking constant drives off one or two man plays up the centre of the field and never playing down the inside centre channel as a traditional second row forward would.

Honestly, why do you persist ? What's your loving problem, pal ? I say he played central, you say he didn't, so what ?!?! Get over it and stop loving hounding me about it.
