Are you including Warrington in this sweeping generalisation?

Last year Warrington made £300k profit with a greater turn-over than Wigan's whose paltry profit of £28k was on the back of £240k of received transfer fees, without these Wigan would have lost £212k.

:? so what 250k did wigan receive last year? but wigan had just laid out a lot of money for the Centre of excellence and at the end of the day we didn't make a loss, so hardly lucky that we can afford to sign players. Maybe if Mcmanus didn't spit the dummy and accepted Eastmond was leaving he would of got a lot better deal, and you could start signing real quality.

But you don't know how the money spent on things like this are treated by Wigan's balance sheet. It may be treated as a fixed asset, in which case it would have no negative impact on the profit level.
What probably has happened is that any money spent on this sort of infrastructure will be written off over a number of years, so will be of minimum annual cost.

Its very foolish to start making assumptions just based on a profit or turnover figure that's coughed up by the club.

The £250k(sic) was, I presume as no details given, off Saracens for Joel Tomkins as the accounts run November 2011 to November 2012 and I recall hadn't been included in the previous set of accounts.

In the latest accounts Lenengan reports that the current financial year (2012 to 2013) was looking as challenging for Wigan and likley to provide poor financial results due to the strat up costs of Wigan TV and Central Perk. It is therefore safe to assume that the latest results do not include the set-up costs that you are referring to, you can save that excuse for next year.

Didn't those figure (2011 to 2012) also include the transfer fees for Matty Smith, BLake Green and Scott Taylor?

What was Warringtons turnover in that period?

No, as Wigan spread the transfer fees paid evenly across the duration of the respective player's contracts.

£6.77m, as I said greater than Wigan's turnover.

So it was only around £500K more in a year that Wire reached Wembley and the Grand Final?
And then some part of those transfer fees would have been included?

Next years figures will be interesting.

Re: Signings : Tue Nov 05, 2013 2:36 pm
As I said, judging on the end figures given is foolish.
Wigan and Warrington are financially stable and sports clubs aren't generally run for profit (?).
For all we know Wigan could have been on for making a massive profit, but decided to go out and buy sports kit for all the kids in the borough.
They could have been on to make a massive loss, but, unbeknown to us, own an online store selling bondage gear to midgets which generates enough profit to subsidise the losses of the RL club.

Sound like a Dave + Mo plan from a few years ago.
