Ryan Hampshire is the best RL talent since Alex Murphy.........based on a few minutes in a friendly against Leigh

Whilst that statement is clearly a bit nutty, Hampshire is the most exciting young player in the game from what I've seen. He could be anything.

Agreed. He's got rockets in his boots and the footage of him for England under-whatevers shows him as a half back with some real substance.

Anyone who was at the Saints v Wigan U19 game Saints last season will testify just what a prospect Hampshire is. I've only been telling you on here and Red Vee for about four years

btw here was the post from that SLS decided to comment on.

His post was more about Hampshire as on old fashioned style of halfback rather than a comparison with Murphy

Footnote, I say halfback because in the old game I just wonder which position he would have been better at, scrum half of standoff.
Years ago the scrum half was considered to be the creative player (finding gaps and putting supporting through)and the standoff was the one with the pace, the best scrum half I saw at putting players through or making a decision to go himself was Alex Murphy. I am not saying that Hampshire is an Alex Murphy but he shows traits of being able to play either position. The trouble is I am talking about the old days when RL was such a different game.

And wasn't it bewareshadows trying to convince you on here Hampshire was heading to Saints? Or was it Magic Superbeetle?

I'll take the credit for that one and to be fair I'd been told it was fairly close to happening. It'll be interesting to see what happens next(?) year when his contract is up - I believe he was offered a contract along with Powell(again ?) in the middle of 2014 but terms were never agreed.

I think he's a terrific talent no doubt, but I also think Wigan seem to be doing their level best to stop him developing for whatever reason. There's a terrific post on the matter on your board (I forget who by) suggesting Wigan are more interested in shoehorning short term solutions than long term outlook (uses Jack Hughes as an example) - I think forcing him into the fullback role, because that worked for Sam, is foolish at best. (Of course I've not seen enough of his defence to know if that's the reasoning but even still you don't have players like that in your team for defence)

Don't matter if he's good or not Wigan will sell him when someone from the NRL comes knocking? (like Budgie)

Chris Ashton was fairly village at rugby league, though.
