A HUGE if obviously, but... : Sat Jul 20, 2013 11:36 am
If we somehow managed to win our next 2 games, in all likelihood we'd be 5th. KR go to Wire and Wigan and we would be taking points off Catalans. I don't hold out much hope but I'm surprised how close we are to getting back into a respectable league position in spite of our terrible season.

Run ins for each team:

Saints (21)- Wigan (h), Catalans (a), London (h), Wakefield (a), Warrington (h), Hull (a)
Catalans (24) - Saints (h), Bradford (a), Wigan (h), Leeds (a), Wire (h)
Hull (20) - Widnes (h), Hull KR (a), Salford (h), Wigan (a), Saints (h)
Hull KR (24) - Wire (a), Wigan (a), Hull (h), Leeds (a), Widnes (a), London (h).

Realistically, I think we'll lose on Monday but we're certainly capable of getting a result in France as Catalans are struggling. That match is huge as I don't see Catalans winning any of their last 3 games. Alot will depend on the Hull derby as well, we could do with Hull winning that. It's going to be very tight but if we can beat Catalans, Hull and win at Wakefield, we may not be far off finishing 5th regardless of Monday night's result.

Knowing us, we'll probably finish 9th though. :D

You are writing this as if finishing 5th in this league is some sort of achievement.

5th would be a complete embarrassment.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

We have a good chance on Monday and Catalan are collapsing atm too, so its not beyond the realms of possibility to get a win there. We should be beating London and Wakefield as well.

The Warrington game is played the week after the challenge cup final, so if they get there we will have a good chance to beat them, especially if they play Wigan.

Hull are also having a mini crisis (check out their forum! lol) so hopefully that carries on until the last game of the season ;)

Taking that all into consideration, we might have a strong end to the season. However, we wlll probably mess every fixture up and not pick up another point. It wouldn't surprise me.

Couldn't see that response coming. The point is to gather momentum heading into the playoffs. Sport isn't all physical the majority is mental. Someone pass the prozac to sad-end quick!

He has a point, we've lowered our expectations to almost 0 so 5th seems ok.

Considering the position we have been in this season, 5th would be a huge achievement. Monday is difficult to judge for me. If Tomkins and O'Loughlin don't play, we have a decent chance, but we will miss Roby.

The Warrington game is a week after the Cup final, so if they beat Hull FC that will have some sort of effect. It's a Friday game which gives them a 6 day turnaround.

Hull FC have been struggling lately, but on their day they are a difficult side to beat. Especially at the KC. Can see that one being close.

Either way though, for a club like Saints 5th position has to be considered as disappointing. It would be a huge achievement considering though.

I do think we have to be careful not to assume that we have the right to be in the top 4. I think some of our current predicament is down to this belief. In the end sport is a competition.

When we talk about a club this size finding themselves out the top 4 being a disappointment, for sure it is, but it is the first time out the top 4 for many years.

I'm all for ambition, but it can come across a bit arrogant, most clubs fluctuate over the years. This has been our worst for sometime. But even when we where a top 2 side, some where claiming woe is me.

Considering what though? Considering we started a season without a recognised 7 ? Who's fault it that? Not having a pop but we have only ourselves to blame for this year - dreadful recruitment strategy combined with a coach who seems away with the fairies.
