Makinson's performance doesn't surprise me. I've always thought him a real find. Glad to see others now agree with me.
His solo try kick return was a dream to watch. That's been coming for about three years.
From the moment he scored that try against Wakey at the stobart, I think we all got very excited about a winger with real pace. Unfortunately, his diminutive size left him lacking in certain less romantic areas of the game, meaning when Rush took over and went back to basics, he got shelved for Gardner. When Brown gave him back his starting spot, it coincided with some pretty awful team form.
When our form pepped up at the end of the season, he really started to excel and has carried on. I think the subtle increase in strength that 18 months brings has helped him immensely. He wouldn't have broken through those tackles for his try last night back then.
I think he'll always struggle to compete for an international shirt with the likes of Hall, who are a lot bigger, but his acrobatic finishes are testament to his ability to make the most of his game and pace like his is a great value.
Probably due to Mak's slighter frame, Swift may well turn into the better winger. His break just before Tommy's try was almost as entertaining.
We are very lucky with our set of backs. Come 2015, it could be irresistible.
