Nathon Brown 2014 Version : Sat Mar 29, 2014 9:15 pm
We were a bit critical in part of Browny last year.

How do you rate Browny now has he "grown into the club" and perhaps re generated a positive culture at Saints, will his final test be on Good Friday.

His 'final test'? Good Friday is but a service station on the motorway to Land's End (if there was one). This is a journey that will have some twists and turns - now he has his his own team we can judge him properly at the end of the year.

I never doubted Brown. I've always rated him very very highly and KC said he's the best coach he's ever worked with. The players say training is different and doesn't become boring (unlike with Royce).

The only criticism I've had of him was his tinkering but he's put that to bed the year.

This is more like a Brown team now. We have big props. A organising halfback and he's added pace in the backs.

His signings so far have been very good. Manu, walmsley, Amor, Mose, Walsh, Turner look great additions to the team and Dawson and Beaumont not played enough to comment.

He has signed well and given the kids a go.

I like his style of team Big growlers up front, a general and pacey backs, especially the back 3.

Last year was a write off. Brown has come out and implied that. That's why he tinkered a lot and he's found a style for us with players in their best positions.

I've always been a fan of brown. You only have to listen to him speak to know that he's extremely knowledgable about the game and he made Hudds contenders.

His eye for a player is remarkable and he was the one who sourced and got the Walsh deal done according to the chairman.

If we win the super league I can't see him staying past his contract. He'll be a wanted man and that's a shame.

Re: Nathon Brown 2014 Version : Sun Mar 30, 2014 12:13 am
Last year he came in and did the job potter should of done all those years ago. The ghosts of Anderson were still at the club (as could be seen by how we played when Cunningham and rush took charge in 2012) and the entire culture of the club needed a change, which is precisely what brown did. It led to some dire performances, as I think some players could be accused of being set in their ways, but changing it up, in the long run will be what brings us back into real contention. We weren't a million miles away by the end of last year.

His recruitment has been first class (with a few puzzlers) as far as I can see, and we've done really well in who we've tied up as well. On top of that, he's brought players on to a much higher level. Compare where walmsley and makinson were at 12 months ago, and it's a credit to everyone at saints, including brown. If we can keep that handle turning, were going to be set for a long time.

Tactics are always a bit of a danger with brown. As well as we've started this year, there's always a risk of us "doing a Huddersfield" and lose 10 of the last 11 or whatever it was, but I get the feeling we have a few more gears in us from what we've seen so far, so it all looks promising. His "tinkering" hasn't seemed to affect us so far, because a) I think he has a much better understanding of the team and b) the players who can come in are much better than last year.

A trophy is surely the only "final test" and it's looking positive so far, but nothing is won in March ...

I don't know who 'Browny' is but for me the jury's out on Nathan Brown until the end of the season.

I like that the team has reverted to its 2011 spirit and is once again playing with confidence and grit. I like very much that we have Walsh with us when fit and I hope he continues his pre-injury form. I like that we are scoring some wonderful tries, and on the right as well as the left, and that we have pace in our backline again (anyone missed Meli? Not me, that's for sure!). It's a bonus that we are winning matches too.

All good so far but I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season.

Makinson at post match was talking about belief in the team obviouly confidence comes from winning games, so who is responsible for this mental attitude or toughness this season.
Has McManus, Brown and Cunningham re introduced a potential winning culture in the club, maybe we have lots of young players coming through whilst most of the other superleague clubs have not.
The Brown I am seeing this season doesn,t appear to be the same Brown who was at Huddersfield by collapsing at the end of the season.
Maybe the players have the belief that they can beat every team this season.

Talking to Ant Walker yesterday and he said Brown gave a very motivational speech in rehab on Saturday.
