Rugby League doesn't have a monopoly on insular/backwards people. Listen to any football phone-in show on match days and you can't help but be struck by the staggering stupidity. Admittedly we've not helped ourselves at times (such as in employing Maurice Lindsay in any official capacity). But don't believe for a minute that there aren't forces within sport, media and politics which seek to inflict harm on the game at any and every opportunity.
I see far too much of this either/or mentality with both positions deemed to be mutually exclusive. It's a completely false dichotomy the perpetuation of which does the game as much harm as anything we can inflict upon ourselves or have inflicted upon us.
