And for me too. Just a bit.
A true story:
A few years ago, my missus was laid up in bed with a nasty pelvis problem. TV was her hero. I bumped into TV in the changing rooms at the gym, and in the course of conversation I asked him if he would - please - just say hello to her on my mobile. Would cheer her up no end. Bloody cheek I know, but if you don't ask...
Anyway, to my suprise TV said yes of course, no problem - see me outside in the lobby. Good man! So I did. I rang the missus, and said there was someone wanted to say get well soon to her. She thought it was one of the other guys from the gym. I handed TV the phone, and he said he hoped she got better soon. She asked who it was, and he said "Its Tevita Vaikona!" Well...was she made up or what!! She could not believe it! They had a chat, and TV was bloody brilliant.
It got better.
As I was about to pass the phone to TV, another player came out of the changing rooms. He saw what was happening, looked curiously at both of us, and listened. He mouthed at me "what's her name?" then he took the phone off TV and said he too hoped she got well soon. When she asked who it was, he told my missus who he was and had a chat. Well she could not believe it. She asked the second player "are you guys at the gym???" to which, said player replied "Has your husband told you he's at the gym? He's telling porkies...we are at the Top House, having a few beers!" Said player was winking at me, and TV and I were creased up!
She was absolutely over the moon. She'd had a rough time and was really down, and those two absolutely made her day. Her year, even.
That second player was Steve McNamara.
Those two guys did not need to do that. But they did.
I will never forget that. Ever. Two of the nicest and most decent guys I have met.
