It's obvious to me that he should just sit out the Oldham game and rest for the much more important Salford game

Mellor or Roberts will be quite adequate for Oldham

not true I'm afraid the EGP is a once a year deal as long as you haven't picked up a ban, now he has he'll have to have a 12 month unblemished record before he is eligible for an EGP again.
