Re: Season ticket sales : Fri Feb 06, 2015 2:52 pm
I've personally always looked at the programme as one of those things that looks great and obviously a lot of time goes into it, but in reality is probably only bought by people who either collect them, do it out of tradition, or a casual fan who doesn't go very often. I myself have missed about 1 game a season for the last 15 years and I've still only ever bought about 3 programmes. They don't really have enough in there to interest the normal fan IMO, certainly not to the tune of the same price as a pint. If the printing costs are significantly less for the paper, and the advertising revenue is higher (which I expect it would be), then I wouldn't be surprised at all if it worked out better financially. They'll certainly get the free paper out to a lot more fans than they got the programme out to, as everyone will be happy to take one when it's free. Nothing us Yorkshire folk like more than a freebie.
Whether it works or not, time will tell. It's no doubt a gamble, but one I wouldn't be that surprised to see pay off.
