Depends on a few things, to be fair; is Hudds the only SL offer, are the SL offers actually the ones offering the most money - who knows, an offer from a championship club may be the biggest - unlikely as it sounds. Of course, there are also the words of the prospective coach and what his plans may be for position etc. I'm guessing he's been on a decent whack at Leigh to stay in the second tier anyway so what his expectations are is anyone's guess. I'd love to see him at Odsal though, no doubts.

Arguably a Championship Club (as long as they could afford it) are in a better position to offer bigger money. Since the late call was made on expanding the salary cap for Championship teams, all except Leigh are more likely to have a fair amount on the cap they're not using, than Super League teams who've been playing towards a £1.8 million cap for 12 months.

Whether that money is available and you qualify for the 50% relevant thing, is another story entirely. But in theory, Champs clubs have more space on their caps.

To be fair, whilst I take your original point, far from being, "another story", the 50% bit is really just another part of exactly the same calculation.

I can't though see beyond us in our division having anything like the money to possibly be in the position to offer the sort of contract he's likely to accept. Even then, our 'smaller squad' is already looking, if anything, larger than last years' and I'd guess [given the generally higher quality] probably more expensive, so I'm not totally sure we are in such a position either.

As for SL clubs, they could farm out the odd player on loan to open up the possibility of recruitment, as I guess, so could we, though they would presumably have more to offer than us in that department. Hudds, for instance, could lose more from their cap than us by loaning out players to clubs at the bottom end of SL, whereas we would hopefully be wanting to retain any and all of our SL quality players.

If an SL club were to do that, of course, it may offer possibilities to such as us to take loanees, as well as clubs in the bottom 4 of SL. We live in interesting times!

I would also put the question "is Brierly the quality scrum half we need?" or is he a good poaching half who may not have the skills to guide us round the field.
Interesting to see the Wakey fans complaining about their recent signing from Cas who many on here wanted. Signing a new SH is a big decision and I can see why we are holding back till we are absolutely certain this time.

I don't understand people saying Huddersfield might be short on cap space.

Quite apart from anything, they'll have whatever salary Luke Robinson was on, and I wouldn't have thought that would be peanuts as he was a relatively recent GB International

Not to mention Brett Ferres. They've only taken Jamie Foster on trial to replace Robinson & Ferres, so I would say they have every bit of cap space available.

If we're not going to get Brierley, and in no way do I think we would, I'd quite like Leeds to sign him and then decide to farm Jordan Lilley out on loan to us for a season. That kid looks like he could be a star.

Just as a matter of interest Why would Leeds sign Brierley and then loan Lilley out to anybody, I would have thought that if they did sign him it would be him that went out on loan and not Lilley.

Brierley more experienced. Maybe not at SL level, but in general he is. Would be more likely to play first team than Lilley this season I would assume, and Lilley as a youngster would benefit from a regular spot in the short term with a view to replacing Burrow/McGuire in the long term.

If Leeds were to sign Brierley, I would expect him to be ahead of Lilley in the pecking order, at least at first.
