Ha, not really. Kinda, but no. Don't use that phrase!
Since I'm such a caring soul I was looking for ways for Leeds to look better than they are. I wanted to know where teams are winning and losing games. Here's my technique: 1) Work out what the score is at each minute of each game. 2) Cycle through all the minutes, collecting all the scores for minute one, and then minute two, etc... 3) I then treat each of those collections of scores as if they were results and work out what the league table is for them. 4) And then I plot league position for each club at each minute until the 80th, at which point positions should be the same as the actual league table. Teams are in the same order as the current league table. (Link to full version if you're having trouble reading that) Let's start with Workington at the far end there. Bless 'em. A solid ten minutes effort at the start of each half. And then there's Whitehaven. Kings of the second half come back, Emperor's of the late second half collapse. Oldham are consistent, whilst Dewsbury start well and pretty consistently tail off through their games. Batley, surprise package of the first third of the year. Crap since Kear announced he was going to Wakefield. I think they've won two points since then? It seems from this, admittedly recent and incorporating their recent losses as well as their earlier wins, that their 'form' is predicated on sneaking close wins at the end. This certainly tallies with my experiences of seeing them and reading their match reports this year. Not much to say about Fev and Bradford. Or really Leigh and London for that matter. Both the top two full time pro' teams are starting poor to average and then increasingly dominating as the game goes on. You said 'flat track bullies', not me. But let's skip back to fifth. Halifax. If games ended on sixty minutes they'd be the best team in the league. But for the failure of others I don't think Bradford can do second place now. Maybe, but unlikely. Given the closeness of the table around us right now we may not do third either. I nominate the hill people of Halifax as the those most likely to nick it. The original point was to see if Leeds are tailing off at the end. They're crap throughout. |
