Grass always used to be more or less that sort of length on rugby pitches, maybe Hemel was a bit higher than even back then, but grass was always top of the boot level. It's only since the soccer teams started razing it to the ground and we started sharing grounds that it has become so short overall. Odsal isn't short by soccer standards.
