I totally understand that there is a genuine need to preserve certain buildings which have a historic meaning to a community, but what fails to be recognised is whether the building can be repurposed and at what cost.
The facility was not financially viable for the LA as a leisure facility to the extent that they were prepared to pay millions for a new site and build. This alone should set alarm bells ringing.
If the system of listing buildings worked correctly, funding should be made available to recognise the high costs for maintaining and operating such a site, but instead it will now likely sit derelict for the next 10-15yrs costing taxpayers money to secure the site. Utterly stupid!!!
My only hope is that the city wins its bid for City of Culture status as IMO this is the only way that Bradford will be able to raise funding to regenerate the area.
