Re: York (H) : Sun Jul 21, 2024 7:18 pm
We got the win against a team we always seem to struggle against. Those final 10 minutes were breathtaking for all the wrong reasons. I felt that when we went 30-10 up we became complacent and the cue went in the rack. York were dead and buried but the final 10 minutes showed what they're capable of and why they are still a team that can hurt you. I felt that overall we played well and the result was never really in doubt (until those final 5-10 mins  ). We held our composure and some brilliant individual play from Souter got us up the field and Fulton delivered the KO punch to see off the Knights once and for all. I also felt that if Lilley was more accurate with the boot those final 10 minutes wouldn't have been so tense.

During the first half York capitalized on our mistakes in our 20m area and scored 2 cheap tries. Once we sorted out the errors they never got a sniff. Pele, Doro and the rest of the pack created some good momentum for our backs to cause some problems. We saw some moments of great individual play this afternoon. Doro's break was superb, we'll miss his go forward massively next year. Lehmann's footwork in the corner for his try was good and Myers never giving up on the play resulted in him scoring from a kick. Appo punching holes in the York defence also resulted in a score. Gilly scoring a brace and always being a threat down the edge. Does anyone know who got MOTM?

Another massive test next week against the Vikings. Win that one and we open up a 4 point gap between us and the chasing playoff pack.

Finally, glad that we could get the win for the Hallas family!

Big two points that. They'll be plenty of chat about letting York back into it with 10 minutes left. However York are a momentum team, they get 1 try then 2, 3 straight after. Love to see the stats but I think they're one of the highest points scorers in the last 10 minutes.

I don't think we should underestimate the amount of energy the last two weeks will have taken out of us. Toulouse hammering Wakey shows what a big point for us that was over there, then to back that up and push Wakefield hard the week after, this was always likely to be the game, against an in form York side, that caught up with us. Look at the other results and fatigue is definitely playing a Factor. Sheffield losing two games against side's fighting at the bottom and even Wakefield looking tired against Toulouse. It's a great win for us.

Couldn't make it to this one but the "cue on the rack" comment chimes with what someone told me who was there. Could've paid the price there but I'll take a scrappy win after the exertions of the last two games. York are on the up again so it was a good win.

We were poor but it's a big 2 points that.
