Err, to do what I call an FA: don't you mean round
down? Assume the 1p coin had a diameter of 10 units. a square 10 x 10 units would be 100 square units . a circle with that diameter would be 5 x 5 x 3.14 which is 78.5 square units. so the solid volume of 86 trillion coins would with gaps in be reduced to 78.5% which is 67.51. however there is that lip around the edges of the coin, so round it down to 67 trillion. ok, FA I agree, some will be worn, so 67.01 trillion.
