On the plus side the loss should jog the England players out of their complacency, not that they should have been complacent in the first place.

McBanana was a master at putting sides out that under-performed. You’d think he’d be able to spot the warning signs by now, especially after the super duper preparation in South Africa.

How the hell he got the England job in the first place is anybody's guess. His time at Bradford exacerbated the club's problems massively. If only he'd gone to Hull before Nobby left.

Well the squad wasn't picked on form so I don't suppose the team for the Aus game will be picked on form either. The players probably took a similar view.

Our game is lucky to get much national coverage at the best of times and this result has given our media distractors ammunition on a plate just at the wrong time. The BBC coverage started in earnest last night, and what do we get: lots of pictures of shamefaced England players and Nigel Wood being interviewed in an empty stadium - are these images related?

Would any decent coach want the job on a full time basis? That's your answer, which is why he wants to keep it after the WC. It will be yawnion for him next.

And that is the problem - coaching the national side, being in the national side and the national side itself aren't seen as the pinnacle of our game. Where does yawnion generate the bulk of its cash? Where do fans fight for overpriced tickets to watch normally dour, boring games and the majority don't have a clue what is going on?

Just to make it worse I can still see the advert for the Italy game on the right hand side of this screen - like a tombstone!

AFAIK both Aus & NZ manage with part time coaches. It's the only way you will attarct top quality to GB, unless you could get someone who has semi retired, such as Brian Smith, to take it on.

You could say with Oz and NZ --in the nicest way possible - that they essentially "play with themselves" on ANZAC day. If we had a proper international format and calendar then you would attract higher calibre coaches like the union game does. To be honest I think in this year's WC England would have a much better chance with Stuart Lancaster managing - he might not know the rules but at least he could improve the motivation.
