What on earth can we say positively at the moment? Well at least we scored? At least we didn't concede 50 points for third week in a row. I can take us losing. But we are getting absolutely smashed every single game. It is painful to watch at how bad we are. The standard of passing, attacking setup, organisation, kicking game, ability to tackle, defensive line speed, aggression, leadership. Everything is abysmal at the moment. They are full time players earning wages some of us could dream about. Yet the young lad Bates who is only part time and hardly any SL experience as shown more guts, effort and quality than some of our well paid senior players. There is NOTHING to be positive about at the moment. A part time championship club would be shipping the amount of points we are at the moment.
I think there is severe lack of confidence at the moment. To be honest, everyone just seems to be off form at the same time. That's why you get the incidents like we had between Gaskell and Foster, when neither wanted to field the kick in the first half. They are both infinitely better than that. I think there is quality in the team but they're just not showing it, hopefully things will improve now we seem to be getting the big men back up front, as you need the forwards to give a platform.
There is also some defensive ability 'cos we've seen that a few times - all be it in between the occasions when they couldn't tackle a light breakfast. Much of making tackles isn't just technique though, it's also in the head and is exactly the same attitude of mind as being in or out of form, and if you feel 'off-form', then when you go for a tackle and don't really expect it to 'stick', then odds are it won't.
We could do with some stability as, with the best will in the world, having loanees constantly coming in and out isn't the best way to run a team - but, of course we can only play the hand we've been dealt, and as fans, the only thing we can do is support the lads; at the end of the day negativity only breeds negativity and that never helps. That said, some people [not you] just seem to enjoy being depressed. Personally I'm looking forward to Sunday and a heroic win against the odds, with so many top performances that we can't decide on man of the match......
though I'm not holding my breath.
