Does buying back the Odsal lease not count? I'm pretty sure he isn't using our central funding to buy it back with. Or at least I bloody well hope he isn't!

If we get any outside investment at all, I would sooner see it go to junior development than signing a few short term 'superstars'.

Do you mean the freehold, from the council?

We haven't actually been told anything specific about the talks with the council - and probably won't be. I can't imagine it's going to be a massive amount though, given the problems - chemical waste, instability of the waste, needs levelling etc, you'd have to wonder how much a commercial developer would consider putting into it. I suspect it's not an arm and a leg or Marc probably wouldn't have gone into it.

I do wonder though, just what it is we can do with the freehold, other than put pressure on the RFL to sell the lease, that we couldn't do just by being leaseholders. After all, in 130 odd years when we have to hand everything back to the council, we'll all have been dead for a long time and no one will care what we've done with the ground, so why can't we just build anyway? After all, upkeep and development is down to the club anyway.

I am not sure its a case of boom or bust, although if it doesn't come off this year DB may rein in his spending somewhat and if we can get that 5th or 6th and not spectacularly implode it won't be too much of a hardship to him and may allow for a 3rd attempt (if we need it that is ;)).

Well perhaps not boom or bust, but without SL level funding there's no way that sort of business model is sustainable. If it was, you'd not have been playing us this season

The RFL have already said that they won't release the lease until any potential development ensures that sport and recreational activities are safeguarded. I guess this stops anyone from selling the commercial development of Odsal, making a small fortune and sending the club to play at Horsfall or Valley Parade.

I think it's more of a speculate to accumulate scenario with regards the Odsal lease.

The deposits of mustard gas behind the Coral Stand mean that any housing developments are out of the question. You could landfill the famous bowl and build on top, but it would be ten plus years before you'd get the green light from the authorities.

To be fair, the salary cap last season didn't allow DB to make the level of investment that he has this season.

FWIW it seems that Marc Green is taking a sensible approach financially, albeit it might be frustrating to the fans. As a leyther, I'm enjoying the money Beaumont is throwing at the club right now. But the very recent memories of nearly going bust are still very raw for (most of) us Leigh fans

Yes, the existence of mustard gas is correct.

Yes, although there's no reason to be worried as from the last land survey it's buried 150 feet below ground level. I can't begin to imagine just what else is buried underneath Odsal.

Really, whoever you are, you never mentioned this to me in the numerous conversations we had about the Stadium in the period we were studying the Stadium and it's history. Games up.
