If the RFL have said it's OK then we must assume it's OK, it's not as though some third party is going to bring out a lawsuit, surely?

RFL also technically decide when the subs go on, yet it's the club that get punished.

Reserves game shouldn't count towards bans IMO. There's a complete vaccum coming from the RFL at the moment so i wouldn't trust a word they say.

I agree Bull Mania, i don't think reserve games count towards a ban.

I'm sure years ago reserve games counted for suspensions. Not all clubs now run reserve teams so I'm not certain if that's changed or not.

Have we been given an exemption or are the rules published on RFL site not up to date? The sections I mentioned seem pretty straightforward and wouldnt allow Grant to serve his ban tonight.

I’m glad we have been pro-active and clarified it with the rfl but as others have said we’ve been caught out before despite having the ‘all clear’. It’s a sad state of affairs when we still can’t trust the rfl to have a clue but that’s a common theme coming from the rfl on a huge number of issues lately.

I assume Grant will be playing on Saturday which is fair enough if it is all above board and arguably a clever way of manipulating the disciplinary. I’m just saying personally I wouldn’t take the risk as it wouldn’t surprise me to find out on Monday the rfl are denying all knowledge and investigating our use of an illegiable player.

From the Bulls Website

After agreeing to be found guilty for fighting in Newcastle, Dalton Grant will serve his one-match ban in tonight’s reserve grade game against Keighley Cougars.

“We’ve spoken to the RFL about it and felt that was the case, we’ve had it confirmed in writing that the reserve grade counts as the single-game suspension.

“We are really delighted because we have had a bit of luck with that and that he’ll be available, which further strengthens our cause.”

No exemption Matt. It's per the RFL operational rules and they've confirmed the ban will expire after the game against Keighley Cougars tonight.

I'm not disputing whether club have clarified rule with RFL or that they've said it s ok. Im just trying to understand the rule.


The rule as stated in operational rules is as follows:

D2:54 The following Matches shall not count towards a Player's suspension:

(a) Academy or Reserve team Matches played mid-week (Monday to Thursday inclusive). When a club, as a matter of policy and with the sanction of relevent the Committee plays its Academy or Reserve team Matches in mid week, and that Club has no first team Match played on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday following that mid-week date, then the Academy or Reserve team Match played in mid-week will count towards a Players suspension.

If the Reserve team match had been last week then we had a weekend off then it would have counted. I don't see how it does this week as rule appears to specifically exclude it.
