There's also 'that guy' whose phone goes off, and instead of very quickly and quietly turning it onto silent, feels the need to answer it and LOUDLY explain to the caller that he cannot talk right now because there is a minutes silence going on and will they please call back etc etc etc

There was a new guy in our office that did that during the minute's silence for the Bradford City Fire this year. Although he didn't explain why he couldn't talk, he instead just took the phone call as it was "important". He may not be from Bradford and may not understand how important that particular anniversary is to some of us who are from this city, but I can't say he made himself very popular with that action.
