According to Stuart Duffy on Facebook our part timers out of the 17 at the weekend were DFJ, Oakes, Kirk, Crossley, Storton and Milnes. No mention of Grant.

Milnes is quickly earning himself a fulltime contract if he wants one IMO.

And Storton too please.

Can't be traveling up from London to train every night of the week, can he? I didn't hear that mentioned though. Spend more money in petrol per week than a PT player gets if he was, surely?

I'm pretty sure he still lives in London as his missus has a decent job. Last season he was spending the week down south and only coming up on Thursday afternoon through to game day, then travelling back down. His digs were at Dane Chisholms.

And sign up Kirk too....The amount of work he get's through is phenonemal and if not already he's becoming the cornerstone of the pack. Yeah the other guys give us the barnstorming runs but Kirk just quietly nips through the Leeds defence in the first set...

He's the latter day McDermott to Peltz's Baloo, Crossley's Vagana and Green's Fielden.......I know, I know I am stretching a bit...

Kirk is a steady improver. He’s begun to make yards after contact now whereas before he’d make none. He takes some fearful hits and gets straight up. Tough lad.

Thats actually a great comparison!
Macca never made the breaks or put in the big hits but his work rate was top drawer very much similar to how Kirk is developing.

I still think there is more to come from him but he was thrown in at a very young age for a prop and seems to be getting better every season.

Totally agree, the analogy is perfect. I think Kirk is ahead of where Koppy was at his age and look at the career hes managed to have. I think if he continues to work hard and fill out tat little bit more hes got a cracking future ahead of him

Oh yes Oakes, I knew that too.

I wonder if next year we will revert back to FT or continue with this hybrid system that is working. It's perhaps the best way to operate for those clubs that don't have wealthy backers.

As long as we are at this level I thnk it would be mad to revert to full time only. Takes you out of the market for proven top end championship players who have good jobs outside of rugby.

Look what happened to Sheffield when they tried it

Our best prop is part time (Crossley). Going wholly fulltime doesn't mean automatic promotion as we found in 2015/16.

Re: Rowan Milnes - Pulse 2 Interview : Fri May 17, 2019 12:05 pm
Nope, you're both did right. Sheff failed and we failed. However FT is clearly more beneficial to player development. As JK said, both Milnes and Storton will develop more in a FT environment.

The same goes for all players I would imagine. However life gets in the way of rugby and some like Crosslet and most of the better season Championship campaigners prefer PT because it suits them more.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Liam Kirk is a Kopczak clone in how he plays and how his body looks at this age. If he develops anything like Koppy did physically then he will be canonballing players out of the way left, right and centre. As mentioned before too, he is a very tough fella.
