It'd be interesting to see if an NRL team picks him up.

I was disappointed that Rohan never got a chance here. I still see his name mentioned over in Aus and I'm pretty sure he just won the coach of the year award for the competition he's coaching in currently.
Smith was out of his depth if you discount the pointless championship shield which was a sign of failure his record isn't great. 5 defeats in 12 games including the debacle at Featherstone the 20 - 0. Its another of those mysteries while he's held in such regard that's more probably to do with stopping on after the admin not his coaching record.

I think for Rohan it was a case of a big job came too soon. The year before we missed out on the million pound game and Lowes was sacked halfway through a season. Rohan came in to a team that wasn’t his. Coached 20 games and won 14. Yes he lost at Fev and it was bad. But I thought he was a good coach. He brought in Moss, Chisholm etc. They enjoyed it under him. And we had a couple of 80-0 at the back end too.

He’s gone to Norths and won the league last season. I think he’d be ideal. But I don’t think he’d come back now.

I might be wrong but I thought that game away to Fev was right around the time it came to light that we had been put in special measures. It wouldn't surprise me if word had already spread amongst the players and that performance was the result.
There's no doubt Rohan can coach.

I tend to agree.

I think Rohan would have been better for us had we been in SL. We need a coach who understands the nuances of the championship. Think I remember him saying he didn't know about the slope at Fev in the post match interview. Adam O'brien was also dropped for Danny Addy at hooker if I remember rightly.

If Kear decides to retire, then Danny Ward would be my number 1 choice. Knows the championship and what it takes to get out of it. Surprised he's not back in a job yet to be honest.

Agreed. Smith was a great communicator but was an inexperienced coach for over here and let's not forget the club was a basket case under Green so perhaps that did have an impact on the preparation for the game at Fev but we did look bereft of ideas that day. Leaving O'Brien out was baffling, but then Lowes picked Baille at hooker for the million pound game at Wakey the year before so Smith didn't have a monopoly on baffling decisions.

I agree Ward would be a decent choice - not sure why no club has picked him up. Strange.

I read somewhere that he'd moved down to Surrey with his family when he took the London job, and they are all settled there now. At the moment he isn't looking to uproot his family, which of course automatically disqualifies him from any jobs along the M62

No idea if that''s still true, I definitely remember reading that and it does seem a logical explanation

I'd be pleased with Danny Ward.
