...With only 3 props on the books, it just is not possible to operate flat out, for two reasons. first of all during a game because theres nobody on the bench when you have knackered yourself out, and secondly because of the increased risk of injury when driving in at full power, which means theres only two props available. As anybody with any fitness training background will tell you, ballistic weight training exercises, such as plyometricss, can be highly risky and that is without the added risk factor of having three people trying to tackle you. Its the same factor that operates the week before a final, players do not want to get injured so they operate within themselves...

I was always under the impression that the easiest way to get injured was to run into tackles at less than full power, particularly if you're meeting three brick walls coming the other way!

Too true they did.

To be fair, some of those lads were top drawer, but hardly the best way to run a team it must be said, and I definitely hope we're not in that position again for many more years - at least not until hell freezes over..

counter intuitive and counter factual. a study of the preseason training in an Aussie Rules team showed that 40% of injuries were directly related to high levels of exertion. etc etc. and of course the main reason is that the more tired you get the more difficult it is to maintain proper technique, especially if the "balance" muscles are tired such as adductor/abductor, rotator cuff muscles etc etc.

It would seem so. Quite disappointing that Roberts hasn't been retained.

Disappointing but we can't keep all of them. You could actually argue that Mellor has shown just as much promise as Roberts when he has been given first team experience.

Of course, it might not have been 'our' decision and he may well have got a 'better' offer?

Has it be confirmed any where ? Would like us to sign a couple of kids up to full time deals. Brad Adams was in T&A saying his contract up and he don't know what's happening

Bras Adams gone as well by looking at twitter. I've always been underwhelmed when seeing Roberts. The club really bigged him up but never saw anything special about him. Still he's very young and has plenty of time to develop.

He broke his leg just as he was looking to kick on.
