I can only hope that the punishment beating from the EU will be implementation of the Universal Basic Income.

Or, if there was sufficient existing will in the town, it could simply be annexed, in some Putinesqe like move, a bit like Crimea? I mean, that one seems to have gone ahead despite all the rhetoric.

As a natural Lib Dem I'm gratified that Tim Farron has said he would go into the coming general election (I'm assuming we get one in the autumn) campaigning on a platform of not allowing brexit. On that statement they've added 6k new members in two days.

There is a slow but creeping message from a multitude of places, that regardless of the fact that 52% of people have taken delight in having no measurable brain activity, we shouldn't let this exit happen.

If it doesn't happen there will be riots. If it does, there will also be riots.

Personally I'm just glad we did something that warrants its own chapter in The Decline and Fall of Western Civilisation.

This is the largest part of the problem.

If it had been 60% against 40% the arguments, if not the opinions, would be over. But it wasn't, it was pretty much down the middle. With the Leavers now backing off about sending notice to quit it does seem they maybe realise they have bitten off something bigger than they thought, and they are worried.

Johnson certainly gives the impression that he was in it for the jape, and maybe hoped it would enhance his leadership bid but now looks panicky as he realises they never actually worked out a plan for if they won. Either that or someone put the fag packet in a bin...

This is why I find it risible that political luminaries such as Jennifer Saunders tells her 100k fans on Facebook that we should all be polite and pull together. I can't emphaise enough to people that the twee "keep calm and carry on" is applicable after a minor flood, or a cat up a tree, but wholly inappropriate to civil war.

Because to me, the seismic nature of the rift in this country is as close to the effects of civil war as it is to the partisan aftermath of a contentious general election. It suits brexiteers to chalk this attitude to melodrama, but I believe it to be true nontheless.
