I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

Michael O'Hehir would have to be the best.
Commentating on horse racing is probably one of the hardest sports to commentate on, moves very fast, horses falling, trying to judge a horse by the jockeys colours ie up to 40 different shirts to remeber. just think grand National.

O'Hehir was offered a boat load of money by the BBC to be their full time Racing Commentator but turned it down so that he could stay in Ireland to commentate on Hurling and Gaelic football. He did however come over every year for the National and one or two other race meetings.

He is acknowledged as being the best ever racing commentator. See link for some details

If you can stand his pro-England bias.

When you're a Bradford fan there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately it's usually an oncoming train

Sid Waddell is an annoying bawbag. He just spouts a right load of crap that has nothing to do with the sport he is supposed to be commenting on.

Like me I guess.

However, to answer the question, and sorry for offending my Yorkshire friends even more, David "Bumble" Lloyd in the creekit is the daddy.

:?:

Sid Waddell is darts. Darts was a pub game then Sid Waddell created Indoor League for Yorkshire Television (presented by the greatest cricketer ever) and since then with the help of Sid amongst others has now become a sell out Arena sport (PDC anyway the BDO is crap) - Gary Hetherington won't have it but it's more popular than Leeds Rhinos.

The man is a genius and a master of the one liner. A Cambridge graduate (who organised the first inter-collegiate darts tournament) and accomplised writer the man is a legend in the true sense of the world.

A resident of Pudsey he is without doubt THE greatest sports commentator of all the sports even more so than Brian Johnston and Eddie Waring.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

Sorry I should have rephrased that as Sid "Dennis Priestley's eyes are bulging like a hungry Chaffinch" Waddell, Brian "Oh stop it Aggers" Johnston and Eddie "he's a poor lad" Waring.
