I'm not missing that point at all, Deacs is still probs one of our highest paid players even with 50k knocked off, his wage will still be relativley high I reckon, still far much for somebody who you want to play as cover.

You still seem very sure that BJ is a highly paid player at the Bulls. I still think he will be among the medium earners at the club and as such we could afford to retain him and bring in a high profile signing. That was the original idea when we tried to add Greg Bird to the side.

I do think he's a highly paid player yes, he was a first choice starter at his old club, he's an overseas star and he's going to be looking for a big deal to finish his career on. He'll be medium to high I reckon. Certainley wont be cheap.

And whatever the the salary cap situation was at the start of this season, it's going to be very different to the forthcoming season. I think some kid themselves when trying to work out the cap, after all, when we got rid of Harris, Vagana and Hape and other big earners at the club we were expected to have 'loads' to splash out on, but when it came around to it we didn't splash out at all. Greg Bird? It was never going to happen and everybody at the club knew it.

Clearly.

If you dont care how much we are paying and are prepared to see a high profile player, with a high profile players wage going to waste cleaning the boots then you are clearly happy with throwing valuable money away.

So you think Deacon should get a starting spot purely because of his "high profile status"? So say we had Harris and Long in the side (2 of the highest profile 6 & 7) and then we had Leon Pryce and Cooper Cronk (2 quality players but not quite as high profile) which two would you play? Going with your earlier theory it would be the first 2.

It's nothing to do with who I think should get the spot, It's about having big money tied up, sat around doing nothing, which it would indeed be in one of them if we had, Wing, Jeffries and Deacs all in the same team, because one of them wouldn't be playing.

What is the point having a highly paid player, used simply as cover? It's a waste of money when you can have a young player doing exactky the same 'cover' job for half the price? Therefore leaving you money over to strengthen elsewhere.

What is so difficult to understand about that?

Beacuse we stupidly gave him a 2 year contract, and now this is the area we need to strengthen in regardless of whether Deacon is still ast the club. I would love him to be released but I can't see it happening.

Also, if Deacon isn't in the side, Sykes better get his kicking boots on and start practicing. Wing can't kick goals btw.

Deacs plays mate, that's how it goes at Odsal, for now and until the end of his deal. It's the wrong decision in my opinion, but that's how it's going to be. So we can either increase the quality we have at stand off by signing Wing and letting Jeffries go and save cash for elsewhere in the meantime, or we can sign Wing, retain Jeffries on what will more than likley be a improved contract and let him clean everybody's boots(cover) whilst making a killing(tieing money up, that could be used for cover for 2 positions with a young player), because lets face it, he isn't going to be playing 7 whilst Deacs is here and 'if' Wing is signed as a stand off, then BJ wont be playing there either.

If Wing is being signed as a hooker as a direct replacement for Newton then, we will no doubt be keeping BJ, whcih should keep some people happy. I'd prefer it if it was BJ in contract and Deacs OOC, but I can take or leave BJ either way.

I would definitely prefer Wing in the halves, he would really add that attacking threat which we need. If that means letting Jeffries go, then by all means I agree with it. If we had enough for Bird though, then that would be Wing covered or thereabouts, then we have Jeffries, Tupous and anybody elses we don't resigns wage. Imo we must be spending a fair amount under the cap -not that it isn't available- and to challenge next season we will have to be closer.

Ins Outs
Wing Jeffries ?
Hall Tupou
? Solomona

We shuold have room for another good signing at least if we had enough room for Bird. Also, if we had the cash i'd look at letting Sykes go and getting a better centre in. But if you get my drift, we should be able to afford to improve our halves and three quarters for next season. Solomona will have been on one of the highest wages at Bradford and Jeffries will have been above average.

Sykes provides good cover in a number of positions and is home grwon, making him a key member of the squad IMO

I don't subscribe that someone should play just because they are on a high salary. We should play the best team and at the moment that doesn't include Deacon. It may be a waste but its a bitter pill that needs swallowing. If he wants first team football he could then seek a transfer but realistically he'll stay as no one would sign him. Unfortunate, but he can no longer provide the service he did - the team has to move on. I suspect he is carrying a bad injury and playing through pain

Add Craig Wing to the team and Deacon is definitely out of scope. I can't see that Deacon would be included and Jeffries not retained. Quicker ball to Jeffries will bear fruits giving more time to combine with the likes of Nero or with Halley on the second phase
