Agreed. Haven’t we a 30+ man squad, get three props injured and need to bring one in?

7 props in the squad. 3 with longish term injuries.

Wood is more of a backrow/loose forward as is Hallas. Keelan Foster isn't quite ready yet IMO.

Losing three is a blow and were we to lose another we'd be in a situation with no competition for places. I've no problem with loans being used to cover.

And what have JY or Ryan done to justify dropping them for DFJ?

Please help me out?

Happy to help

So, point one:

'I'd like to see Foggin-Johnston get a chance.'

This means: I would like to see foggin Johnston get a chance.
It doesn't mean I think our two starting wingers have done anything to get dropped, nor does it mean I think he's better than either of them. But I do think he looked good in preseason, and would like to see him in a competitive match. Unfortunately for him, his chances of getting into the team are slim barring injuries. Maybe playing him in one of the few fixtures where we don't need to put out our strongest team could be an opportunity to give him a run out, and not risk one of our star players. Or maybe not. Either way, I would like to see him get a chance. I don't think this is too hard a concept to follow

Point two:

'Also, I'd maybe rest minchella and put in storton or garside.'

Apologies, 'rest' may have been the wrong word to use, as I think you have taken it too literally. I'm sure he doesn't need a rest. But again, as this is one of our less testing fixtures, maybe we could not play him this week and try out storton or garside. The non-minchella second row spot seems to be the one with the strongest competition

Note the use of the word 'maybe' which implies uncertainty

Point three:
'Same goes for Webster, bring in oakes.'
Similar to point two, but with the added factor of his age. Being 35, he's going to be more susceptible to injury, so maybe we don't need to play him in every single game

I don't see any of these points being particularly outlandish or baiting, so sorry that these thoughts upset you so much

Hope this helps xx

1 game in to theseason and youre already picking and choosing which are the easy games and which ones we can afford to leave players out.

I hope for everyones sake JK and the players dont have this sort of attitude or we might find our selves on the wrong side of the score board.
We cant afford to take anyone lightly and we should field the strongest team available each week for me. Especially given its week 2 of the season!!

I'd go somewhere down the middle of the last two posts

Mixing things up a bit is fine when we are into the second half of the season, or even over Easter. But not in Week 2. At this point we need to be building some continuity.

I think, judging by last season, John Kear seems to take that view as well

Read what I wrote again, did I say any game was going to be easy?

But yes, I absolutely am saying there's games we can afford to leave one or two players out. Nothing wrong with that. It may be week 2, that doesn't mean we can't think about what lies ahead. I'm on about potentially changing one or two players, not changing the whole team for the under 18s. We have a big squad with depth, I can't see a problem with using it

I'm not saying we absolutely should, just....it's something to think about. I wouldn't mind either way

However, when that superstar replacement for McNally that you kept mentioning arrives, we should definitely put him straight in the team....

We're the new boys in this league and, in my opinion, definitely shouldn't be in the business (after one game) of picking out 'easier' fixtures to 'rest' players in. My recollection of Swinton is that they are team of hard nuts who would definitely respond to their coach, showing them our team list and telling them that, "they've rested a few 'cos they think you're rubbish". As a newly promoted team we should be going with whatever side our coach thinks is best for any particular match, however poorly that club may have performed in their opening fixture.

for what it's worth I doubt there will be changes, other than for any knocks/ injuries.

Don't think i'm biased...
...i'm just very narrow minded!!!!!!!

Re: Round 2: Swinton (A) : Fri Feb 08, 2019 10:42 am
There is a big difference between respecting the opposition and managing your resources accordingly.

Swinton are a tough side who will more than likely mix it. Therefore yes we should have a strong line up. I think experienced heads like Webster, Flanagan and Crossley will prove their value in games like these.

That said, I can also see the point that we have a large squad and we can rotate sensibly to protect some of our key strike players. We should be able to beat this side with a second string... that's not being big headed but being honest when you look at the strength in our squad. If we can't then we might as well pack up now and give up.

For me, I'd be looking to bring back in Storton and Magrin. If Olsi is true (not seen it confirmed officially anywhere yet) then he may be in with a shout too. I get the feeling Magrin is carrying a knock as I seem to remember reading somewhere that he was a late drop out.

The short turn around between Swinton and Sheffield surely means that some rotation will be needed if not in this game, then in the next?
