Re: Newcastle (H) : Sun Aug 20, 2023 7:08 pm
Slightly concerning performance today. Another example of the squad just turning up and going through the motions and expecting to win. The only reason we managed to limp over the finish line is because Newcastle were so poor are now effectively relegated.

Massive improvements needed next week against Swinton. We've now got a decent league position as we come to the business end of the season. Lets know blow it next week.

I don't think it was an attitude of we turned up half arsed. It was just a flat game, flat atmosphere. Felt like your typical end of season game knowing we would win. We were just clunky.

Doro looks a good pick up.

Definite improvement needed as Swinton will definitely be out to whack us. No end of season feeling next week.

Yeah it was distinctly lacking in atmosphere yesterday. I'd be surprised if the crowd was any more than 1.5k.

Thought we didn't quite click in attack as well this week. Quite a few dropped or misdirected passes so we were out of possession for some long periods. Defensively we did pretty well but a better side would've made the game much closer.

Thought Fenton Rogers looked good in both his spells. Flanagan snr did well too to score the first and last tries and showed me that maybe he does still have another season in him, Thought Appo went well when he came on. The run and offload for Lilley's try was special. Doro has a good offload doesn't he? The try that was ruled out to Jowitt under the posts was a belter, shame he knocked on.

Yeah Patton's other half and little girl were watching the game from the popular side to the right of the dugouts. He came over and joined them for a bit in the second half. He looked perfectly happy to be there so I don't think he's in a sulk or anything.

Re: Newcastle (H) : Tue Aug 22, 2023 3:50 pm
Greenwood said he was training hard to get back in the side, so I think some of the suggestions about him being a ‘bad apple’ might be a bit unfair. Seen a few suggestions online about him staying away from games etc which is clearly untrue and easy to see how one rumour can suddenly snowball.

I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have a role to play in the side in 2023 even if we decided to go down a different path next season.

Greenwood is hardly going to say 'hes sulking and being a bit of a prick' is he?

Barring an injury crisis, rest assured we wont see him in a Bulls shirt again.

No, but you don't usually say a player is working hard to get back into the side if he isn't either. Enough can be said by saying very little.

“Dec will just have to be patient but he knows that. He’s a smart guy.”

“Dec has trained well. He is putting his hand up and doing all the right things".

I see no reason why Greenwood would make these comments if DP was a 'bad apple'. As I've said previously, I'm no big fan of his and I don't expect him to be at the club next clear but I was surprised by some of the comments on here after the Batley game. It seems his attitude off the pitch is good, even if he is inconsistent at times on it. If he can keep his gob shut, he is a useful player to have in the squad in the run in to the play offs.

I'd certainly be giving him some gametime before the end the season to rotate and also try keep Holmes/Gaskell etc fit. Holmes in particular seems to be managing an ongoing niggle.

I know what you are saying regarding managing the playing time and also Holmes (he does seem to get a few knocks which is a concern heading into the playoffs) but I think we have other good options I'd like to see first, especially considering its clear that the club and Patton will part ways when his contract expires.

Jowett is back in the fold again (although question marks over his long term fitness remain) and then there is also Connor Wynne, GFJ and dare I say Myles Lawford that could come into the mix before we need to revisit Patton?
