Anyone been in new beehive lately? I get the feeling it's in trouble. When I went in a fortnight ago they'd reduced to just two beers because they "can't sell it". And there was a forlorn feeling about the place.

It must suffer a bit from being out on a limb so maybe overlooked in a town centre crawl. Use it or lose it.

Was it still full of psychopaths? I have never been in without been threatened. Maybe it's me.

They serve real ale in their psychiatric wards???

I'm not sure I've ever been down that tiled corridor to the gents without having to step over someone gently rocking backwards and forwards.

I have to sit somewhere, and they can mop the floor easier on tiles.

The Beehive seems to go in 5 year cycles, where initially some enterprising promoters put on loads of great events for about 6 months, then the landlord manages to p!ss them off and the whole place goes back to looking like the outpatients for Linfield Mount for 4 1/2 years until another promoter (who hasn't been stung by the aforementioned landlord) has another go and everything is peaches and cream for another 6 months.

Its an incredible building; inside and out, and it would be a shame if it went the same way as the Melbourn Hotel, which (despite being entirely in the 1930 Tetleys art deco pub style, pretty much all of which are protected buildings in York, Leeds et al) is now a cheap carpet shop.

Must be you! I've been in loads of times and it's usually full of beardy-weirdy CAMRA types. Never had any hint of trouble. I think business might pick up now the football season starts. It gets a few in pre and post match at VP.

It must be him. I've never met Debaser but am pretty sure he deserves a kicking.

For what it's worth, I was in the Corn Dolly last Saturday before the City game and two coaches of Coventry fans had arranged to call [and a third turned up on spec] and up to the point when I left to come home and watch the rugby, everyone was rubbing along very well. I couldn't get a bloody seat but hey ho....

The 'Mucky Duck' IS open, owned and run by the people who own CeebeeGeebies (sp?) in town. Its on the up from the previous landlord (at least they have beer in all week now) and has a thriving music scene, albeit mostly metal and punk, on a weekend.
