I remember being in the adjoining changing rooms when the infamous wig wearing player/coach Geoff Fletcher was screaming terrifyingly at the latest iteration of Huyton/Runcorn/whatever before a game. They played with lots of passion but we stuffed them because they were a disorganised rabble. Otherwise Maurice Bamford's GB would have stuffed the Aussies.

Yes,but on the basis that some of our players have a semblance of ability,then the skill to bring it to the fore and show some passion on the field would give us an immediate improvement.

In fairness it wouldn't have mattered if Churchill was screaming at the Huyton players as there was no improvement to be gained as their ability was low to NIL.

Should never have sacked Cummins. What really was expected of him? Miracles?

Perhaps if that's want you want approach Jesus Christ and see if he would be interested in taking the Odsal hot-seat.

Well, we may be wrong, but there just might be possibly some middle ground between raising the bar as far as "miracles", and doing a wee bit better than these examples:

It was obvious Cummins had lost the dressing room. There have been rumours going around for ages about players not getting on with him.

We don't want miracles, we know a new coach is not going to save us from relegation this season. All we want is someone who can inspire a group of players who have lost all faith in their ability, then hopefully we can go down with our heads held high.

You could argue most teams in SL have those advantages over the current Bulls, so there is no merit in having a coach of the style you suggest. You could also argue a number of those skills can be improved by quality coaching, none can be improved by threatening to beat people up. As much as pro RL players who steal a wage deserve to be chinned, it will only ever work short term.
