As other posters have said our attacking play today wasn't the greatest. We had tons of possession in great field position but had no idea how to convert it into points. We tried endlessly to run through HKR who tackled their hearts out and we lacked any guile or flair. Tadulala's try was down to a good ball from Morrison but Nero's was just down to strength. For the rest of the time we never looked like creating an opening.
We were hampered by losing Solomona who could well have helped create something. Jeffries was off with a knock for long enough but came back on the field. However he never looked very convincing. Deacon didn't do much either. There was lots of effort and energy being used but little direction.
The pack did its job very well. Apart from two bad penalties (the last from Godwin allowed HKR to get back up the field and level things) we were much more disciplined than last year. Scruton and Morrison were the pick for me though Burgess and Menzies had their moments.
A lack of support play was a problem at times, too often players would stand back and admire their teammates rather than come up in support and pose questions for the defence.
Platt had another one of those games where unfortunately the negative outweighed the positive. His missed tackle on Fox was bad and he should've done better. The foot in touch was so needless too.
While Nero looked much fitter he didn't really ever make a break, the rest really lacked cutting edge.
It's only the first game of the season so hopefully the combinations will improve but there's plenty to work on, especially in attack. Today's draw was really a moral victory for HKR.
