Regrettably it is clear that Rugby League is a dog eat dog world and Wakefield are no better and no worse than others.
Cast our minds back to the Hull friendly. Cummins had recruited a side that we all thought could compete. He's now seen the starting props go ( unless there's an amazing u turn ) , his mercurial half back depart, the new half back crocked after 81 minutes of the season and the new back rower and centre/ back rower yet to feature because of injury.
All the decisions on player movement have been taken completely outside his control for 2 reasons. Firstly the administrator is in control and it's Wilson's job to shed as much cost as he can as soon as he can .Never mind a transfer fee-- he'll be looking at reducing the wage bill).I'd guess that it was the administrator that put Scruton on the market not Wakefield making an approach.Secondly the RFL have put the club in special measures, which FC made absolutely clear worried him far more than the points deduction.
The longer this administration lingers , the more likely others will leave. A slow and painful death.
Let's be clear-- poor internal management is the cause of this crisis .
.BUt the RFL cannot and should not escape criticism
I'm sure Messrs Blake and Rimmer can point to this rule or that regulation and tell us they are doing everything by the book. BUT their sudden announcement that they would gainsay the administrators business decision and refuse to accept the transfer to BB 2014 , left the club in even deeper peril .
I really do hope that someone will eventually ask some direct questions of all parties as it appears totally incredible to me that ,given the quite proper and necessary close scrutiny and the regular meetings, Rimmer and Solly did not know the intentions of the BB Board and did not tell them that although they had been passed as fit and proper, their alleged solution for creditor payment was totally unacceptable. If it is established that they did tell that Board, it is just as incredible that the debenture holder continued to press for administration. I am prepared to accept that the question of a points deduction was aired but did they also warn about the special measures scenario?
As it stands they must know that as each asset disappears ( in this case our current player of the year) , the value of the Bulls reduces and the eventual settlement to creditors plummets. And the longer we are in limbo, the less credible the whole competition becomes withLondon and ourselves well behind the 8 ball.
Do Messrs Wood and Barwick intend to say anything?
I will not and cannot blame Scruton or Wakefield. I will decide whether to blame the 2014 board or the Rugby League executives OR BOTH when there is an accurate account of what happened . It's becoming an almost impossible position for FC the staff and the players -- FC in particular has continued the legacy of Mick Potter ,speaking and acting with immense integrity
We need an early resolution but everything I've witnessed makes me despair that it's likely.
Tomorrow I suggest the music played as the teams enter the field is "Always look on the Bright Side"-- for both sides.
And here are the lyrics for people to print out.
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.
So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of poop
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...
Could always print a load of "FOR SALE" signs as well.......Just in case there are any unsuspecting buyer out there!
