We obviously rate him differently. While he's got deficiencies in his game I don't think he's a massive weakness in the side and for me the fullback spot is his to lose. If he has a run of bad games then Hitchcox comes in there and we bring in Evans, DFG or Grant on the wing.
IMO Pickersgill's strengths are his passing and coming into the line. His weaknesses are his one on one defence and his speed. As he learns to read the game and gain experience the speed deficiency will be less of a problem. The one on one defence can improve with training too. If he doesn't improve only then bring someone else in.
We have an academy to nurture the future of the team. Not all players will come in and make an immediate impact so it's about bringing them on. Pickersgill won most improved player last year so deserves his chance.
