The score looks exceedingly bad, but is not a fair reflection of the game. A fair scoreline might have been around 10 - 36. had O'brien managed to score when he was somehow pulled back in the act of scoring, I don't think I'd be far out.
Gale is our class at half back and put simply, without Gale we had no direction and no organisation. Addy had a pretty mediocre game all round, maybe it was too much pressure on him, but anyone who couldn't see how we missed Gale must be blind.
In the first half we were right in the game for the majority of the half, and conceding the last minute try was what killed the game off. That was on the back of yet another schoolboy howler. I do know that I go on and on about schoolboy howlers, although I'm not at all sure what you can do to stop the players coming up with them season on season, but the biggest factor in the size of the scoreline was schoolboy howlers. We just can't help ourselves, and we thus give up good field poistion with monotonous regularity, and award the opposition maybe 6 or 7 sets of six which we have to defend, and especially against a decent team, this is just too much of a handicap. Amongst today's many gems:
* failing to find touch with a penalty;
* kicking the kick-off out on the full;
* no acting half back to pick up a play-the-ball;
* coughing up the ball on the first tackle (more than once);
* dropping the ball in cold blood under no pressure from a Saints drop-out
Sadly I could go on.
