It's a buyers market, I'd hang on a while.

Bradford gave us Hockney, Leeds gave us Moyles.

There's a couple of threads running on TotalRL about this, and I notice AJ among others continuing to push the "Bulls are a private company" line. And it's true, and it's true of the Cougars also. Yet how many private companies get articles like this one written about them? It just seems a bit philistine to write off a sports club as if it was just another branch of McDonalds. In one sense the Mona Lisa is just a dirtied bit of canvas, but we all understand it to be much more than that, don't we? And the same goes for the Bulls, and the Cougars, and City for that matter.

Save you trawling back through, as I am sure you were going to. ;)

Well, this project has gotten further down the road than any previous scheme. But as we've been burnt on these stadium plans before and I have to join the majoritiy in the "i'll believe it when i see it" camp

I think the Tesco scheme was further down the line, as that was funded by a private enterprise, with all the millions still needed this is a long way off yet.

Green Light For The £75 Million Option : Wed Jun 03, 2009 10:58 am
Current Funding 19.1 Million, they say it will be delivered by 2012, not a chance of it happening, it would probably take one year to fill it in and demolish it, never mind building it and where would we play? VP? Pointless waste of money when we could move to VP and buy iy off Gibbs for probably less than 10 Million :(

At the planning permission stage, I don't recall planning permission being granted for this scheme?

Unless I missed it all we have now is the scheme that is going to be worked on, funding and planning permission will now have to be sorted out.

That's how I remember it. Tescos got planning permission from Bradford Council, but Morrissons appealed to the Sec of State and then the scheme got referred. It was at this stage that Tescos withdrew.

From what I understand of this new scheme, it hasn't got to planning permission stage as yet.

Ah yes, that bit.

To be fair, I think it was GW who was more concerned about the private company bit, although I tend to agree with him really.

As you say though, a sports club is more than that.

With that in mind, I cant wait for a similar scheme to be announced for the town of Keighley and the Cougars. The precedent being said and all that.

I remeber similar comments from people in Dewsbury and batley when the Kirklees (soon to be McAlpine and then Galpharm) Stadium plans were announced. That has not just brought extra income Kirklees' way but also given the area a sense of pride. So it shouldn't IMO be viewed a load of public cash being used to help out a private company. Leaving all the other parts of the project to one side of course.

I know given the previous false dawns that I shouldn't but I can't help feeling excited about this. I suppose we'll find out in a few months as the diggers will have to be in early next year.

Why not? - got the Cougars, KRUFC, cricket, bowls, the existing leisure centre across the road, as well a big population centre for the minority community you'd be hoping to integrate. OSV got off the ground because the Bulls did the legwork AFAIK. Has anyone in Keighley ever scoped this out. How much would KRUFC get for Uttley?
