Mr Green, you would have needed a new coach whether Lowes left or not. You were too loyal and he was too stubborn. You also trusted Ferres on his mad "we don't need a scrum half" theory and now Odsal's roosts are full up with pigeons.

If we were where we are on Workington's budget then we'd be doing OK. As it is, we are getting maybe 20p in the £ value out of the squad. We have good players but no creativity, confidence, no leaders and half a season of inadequate coaching.

You need to face facts. The money we have spent and are spending, we are just not getting anywhere near the level of performance from some very talented players that we should be. Why is that, you think?

Spot on. What we don't need is an inexperienced coach with emotional ties to the club. We need a strong guy who will kick some arris, maybe even get rid of some underperformers if he sees fit. This season is already practically a write off, let's have a good shake up and go again next year.

Allowing Ferres to be imposed on us.

Feress has probably done the main job he was brought in for - stabilising the club and making sure we stay in budget. His signings are doubtful but he has also being working with an inexperienced coach. We now need to take a step up and a strong coach who will want his own players is clearly what is needed.
Hopefully, the coach will say who he wants and it is then the job for Feress to do the deals. We need the coach to insist he has the say on who we sign with Feress giving advice if it is an English recruit.

In today's RL Express , John Cartwright is quoted as confirming he has had NO contact with the Bulls. That suggests he did not ,as reported, apply. The Bulls say they have offered terms to someone with the inference that so far they have not had an acceptance.
We are all speculating that Ferres has had the main role in recruitment and consequently all the poor signings were down to him. Re-reading Marc Green's statement regarding Jimmy Lowes resignation , he clearly states that the coach had the final say.

Talking to Ferres the other week was like talking a clone of Stuart Duffy but less plausible.

As Duffy has been at the Tong training ground for quite a while, I think he must be doing a lot the defence Coach training which would account for a lot of the problems seen during the match's! Don't tell M E as he would want to believe it!

Nobby mentioned John Cartwright who would be a good choice for the Club, if he feels it will get him back to top tier coaching again.
With the Titans he was used to that Club struggling financially during his tenure and got some decent performances from an unrated Team at times, He won't come that cheap but will Marc Green put the extra in? As it has been said elsewhere an NRL Coach should be able to get hold of a decent halfback from the Holden Cup Squads!

The only problem with both John Cartwright and Rohan Smith is that they are under contact until the end of the season.

It's the same with Glenn Morrison, hence why he's not heard back from the club.

So going for any of the three above would surely see Marc Green having to pay compensation to release them.

From what was in the Aussie press both Cartwright and Smith are on about £70,000 which is £20k more than what Franny Cummins was on under Green (see court case).

To me it's a no brainer, it has to be someone who doesn't have any emotional ties to the place, wipe the slate clean.

I doubt that the under contract would be a problem, the Bulls are still an attractive proposition to NRL Coach's that have dropped down from the top tier or those aiming to get there, taking the Bulls to the MPG would be the bottom line for whoever comes in and if the Bulls don't go up one or two SL Clubs could be looking to change their Coach's providing the turnaround happens, If hopefully Marc Green chooses from down under, experience would have to be a key factor as well!

Not sure we'd have to pay compensation either. Its not like a buying a player where the other club holds the players registration. A coach is a club employee. If he wants to leave he hands his resignation in and serves whatever notice period is necessary, although I doubt many clubs would insist on this.

If its a head coach then clubs will likely want a fee. For an assistant, there's room for flexibility.

Personally, I'd like us to bring in a fresh face to the club and if that guy is from the NRL and has connections there to get us the players that'll improve our squad then that's a bonus
