Maybe with the right marketting or maybe actually "telling people" in the town it's being played in, which is apparantly something that wasn't done this year for MM, you might actually get a crowd and the idea might take off.

The thing is though, we don't really have the talent pool to let clubs allow their players to be released for what, to the clubs at least, is a pointless fixture.

I always enjoyed the Roses matches and attended almost every one. They have to try and make it mean something to be selected though and maybe they're right in that they have to give it some real time to be considered important.

Yes we do have the talent pool. Clubs are always telling their fans that they have a number of young sters banging on the door for the 1st team. I can't see how it is a pointless fixture either, it's an important one that takes players from a club enviroment to a representative one, and with that comes a higher level of intensity in training and preparation - This surley can only help to develop players in the long run.

I would support a war of the roses competition again, but I think to demand the attention it would deserve a gap in the season should be made for it, and unfortunately there just isn't room at the moment.

RFL need to promote this right and the most important thing is the price
they are notoriously greedy on this sort of thing
10 quid max,for season ticket holders, sell through clubs, clubs keep 10%, will encourage promotions, see what the response is, let that run for a couple of years, get the fans hooked , then look at profiting
love to see it but won´t hold my breath

What is the value to the clubs who release their players to play in this match? THAT was my point. Say we sent off Burgess and Lynch to play and both end up with serious injuries? That's us down 2 props for the season. I doubt any club in the league would welcome additional fixtures unless there was something that would directly benifit them either on or off field

Bradford gave us Hockney, Leeds gave us Moyles.

I wonder what the alchemy is that makes Origin so universally loved here and Roses so derided back in the UK?

Lack of passinate competition I would suspect.
War of the Roses? phooey, who cares for a battle hundreds of years ago.. its not now relevant.

You think? I for one am still very passionate about being from Yorkshire and love every opportunity to get one over on Lancashire.

IMO they need to tap into a bit of that more, instead of just marketing it as a rep game. Actually build up the rivalry that is laying dormant at the moment.

The most important part of the game though is the fact it gets players used to rep footy. There's a big difference to playing with the same bunch of blokes every week, than there is when you get put with a select group of players and are expected to play with them.
