Seems to be pretty important to the Tories these days, and so will probably have a hand in running the country sooner rather than later. What was he like when he was in Town Hall? Wikipedia says 'controversial' but doesn't elaborate.

I suspect that Wiki alludes to a fairly 'controvertial' cut of services in the late 80's that IIRC involved the closure of a number of family centres and the council run welfare rights 'Benefits Shops' that offered free advice on state benefits that could be claimed.

The measures were forced through by the casting vote of the Lord Mayor and there was a big demonstration outside the Town Hall during the vote.

Any political system where the masses have power is bound to fail eventually. Especially given the state of the education system in this country in which 57% of the populace think Caesar is a dog food producer
