Academy: Bulls vs KR : Sat Jul 11, 2009 3:42 pm
I think it finished up Bulls - 38 - KR - 16/18, I left just before the end and KR scorred and interception, didn't wait to see wether he kicked it or not though. It was the first time in a long time since Ive seen the academy. Some good performances from our boys particularly in the forwards. Number 13 Danny Addy played really well and got on the score sheet twice, a big lad and took some stopping, very dominant when defending aswell. Given Donaldson usually plays 13 I'm Not sure what position he usually plays though, perhaps redeverready can tell us.

First teamer Olbsion also looked fairly strong but he dropped the ball a fair few times, not quite sure he's ready to make the step up yet to be honest.

George Burgess is an absolute animal, he massive, he just bashed everything in front of him everytime he got the ball, he really took some stopping and scored a well deserved try in what I believe was a man of the match performance.

I wasn't particulary impressed with either of the hookers to be honest.

Out of the backs the stand out performer for me was the full back, Ben Hellewell, he chimed into the line well and never shut up talking in defence.

Robert Hawthorne although he didnt get the ball very often looked to have a real bit of pace and he finished a try of really well, aswell as being in the right place to ground a dropped bomb from HKR. Also I'd like to mention the left winger Matt Hading who returned the ball well when he had to.

Yesterday I was debating our 1st team stand off position with someone and they suggested we play Joe Wardle, from what I saw today I wouldn't be tempted to, although I have only seen this one game and will wait until I see further more. He has got a grand boot on him, but he gave a few sloppy passes out, but not quite as many as his half back partner Liam Kay, who I wasn't impressed at all by.

A pretty dominant performance though from our lads, our fowards won the game today.

Here is the team the Bulls put out, can anybody tell me which amateur teams these guys played for?

1. Ben Hellewell
2. Kyle Williamson
18. Liam Mackay
4. Rob Hawthorne
5. Matt Harding
6. Joe Wardle (c)
7. Liam Kay
8. Tom Lillycrop
9. Adam O'Brian
10. George Burgess
11. Andy Tate
12. Tom Olbison
13. Danny Addy

14. Jake Senior
15. Matt Bailey
16. Tom Burgess
17. Michael Tate

Also from those in the know, who is expected of big things and to progress through the ranks, who do the Bulls have high hopes for?

I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

Addy is normally a second rower. I've said before that Ben Hellewell is the best natural fullback we have in the entire club. IMO the club has high hopes for the Burgess's, Hellewell, Wardle, Kay, Olbison, Tates, Hathorne and Lilycrop.

Not a patch on stand off at Castleford academy Ryan Brierley this lad is gonna be a star only just 17

What about Proctor? Could he make the step up at any point?

Joe Westerman was going to be a star as well. Nailed on, apparently.

I haven't seen Brierly and have only seen Wardle once, so i'll hold off making any comparisons.

Not a chance. He shouldn't even be at the club. It would have been much more beneficial to play Joe Wardle in the reserves and bring in another stand off for the 18's Billy Cooper at Queensbury or Joe Walker at Dudley Hill would have been good choices.
