Giants and Wigan battle for Bateman : Fri Nov 01, 2013 11:03 am  

According to the reliable Mr Parker in today's paper, the above teams are battling to prise away John Bateman. Apparently he has 12 months left on his deal but neither club have offered enough so far..

I was under the impression he had signed until the end of 2015?

Unless the barny he had regarding wages earlier in the year was the final straw, from what I'm told all he's wanted to do was play for Bradford.

Hudders are remarkably keen on players we've developed aren't they?

If we don't sell more season tickets then I can see Bateman being let go to make ends meet. Wakey have had to do it and so could we.

Surely rather than pay a fee, Huddersfield will tap him up illegally, then wait for an opportunity for him to break his contract and leave that way?

That won't happen this time. There's no player for Huddersfield to illegally sack to make room under the salary cap
