Perhaps waiting until the squad is assured to still be here before announcing numbers?

It looks like they've been assigned them already, at least on a provisional basis (pictures of new training shirts suggest Sammut 6, Carvell 10 and Henry 22). But the club maybe wants to wait until they know people aren't leaving before having anyone go to the shop and have their name and number printing on a shirt, prompting them to kick off about it afterwards.

I also noticed that Purtell has the no 2 shirt, which I thought was a little odd.
I wonder what squad number Foster and Kear will have?

It's odd for anyone who's ever seen him play to be honest. He clearly isn't a winger. Especially with options of Kear, Foster & George now in the squad, he won't likely be playing out there unless all 3 go down injured and Sam Wood is on the other wing.

Makes me wonder if squad numbers haven't really been issued, they're just giving the players some random numbered training gear. Alternatively, Purtell might just like the number 2....

Purtell doesn't have 2. He has a starting centre number.

Would make a lot more sense that way. Have Purtell and Blythe with 3 and 4 (either way round), then have George or Foster take the 2 shirt. Even move Kear there since he played on the right all year, with George and Foster getting the 5.
