If Lowes had been appointed sooner..... : Sun Aug 17, 2014 9:24 pm
would the Bulls be in with a chance of staving off the inevitable ?

To think the club got slated for getting rid of Cummins, but three wins in a row proves they should have done so a bit earlier.

Ah well, next season should be a procession back to SL, eh ?

Life, and even more so rugby league is full of IF's and BUTS.

IF we had never gone into administration we would have 6 more points leaving us 4 behind Hull... plus we would have avoided losing carvell, Scruton, Sammut and Winterstien, let alone the uncertainty surrounding the club... Without all that I think we would have been well clear of relegation, even with cummins.

I don't blame cummins, he fell into the "feeling sorry" for the players trap. Jimmy has come in with rockets and fully inserted. Who knows what would have happened!

One thing for sure is the club are once and for all building from the bottom.

Onwards and upwards.

Correct lol

But while it's here Cummins should of gone after Wigan away no question - and if Jimmy would of come in I believe we would be in or around the grouping of wakey, hull & Salford - and that with -6

but what's done is done and the future looks bright for once :)

There seems to be an assumption that Jimmy would have come in earlier and that Leeds would have let him go earlier. I'd suggest that earlier, it was approaching the business end of the RU season, Leeds RU were looking at promotion and Jimmy was involved in and a big part of that, so to assume he would have just 'upped sticks' at that point, or indeed to assume Leeds Rugby would have been so obliging in letting him go, is maybe a bit off the mark?

I think the fact we are now officially relegated means a lot of pressure is off now and it’s hard to overstate how much of a difference that makes. As much as we have improved in the past few weeks, four out of Jimmy’s first five games (ie the point at which we went down) we still shipped 40+ points in – not that much better than Cummins’ record towards the end. The players seem to be enjoying their rugby now, is that down to the fact the pressure is off, or the new coach? A bit of both maybe? I sadly missed the Wigan and Leeds games, but if we look at yesterday’s game particularly, I can’t say we would have definitely won that if we absolutely had to, especially when Hull had gone 12 up.

What does that say about P&R? Do teams play better/worse? It certainly didn't seem to motivate Bradford under Cummins. Hull seem similarly unable to perform to their abilities due to a below par coach. If there was a threat of R would they perform differently? It would only serve to ramp up the tension (IMO) if the possibility of R continued to the end of the season. As it is, both relegated teams won this weekend, for the first time this season.

WHAT IF the club had gone with the consensous of opinion within the Rugby League world (especially the media) and kept hold of Cummins?

The comments from the players point to a problem when he was here and a change in atmosphere within the camp now Jimmy is in charge.

I don't think that can be overlooked.

I guess the potential jeopardy of relegation this season was distorted by the fact the Broncos seemed resigned to it right from the start by not bothering to have a team until just before the season started, and then the Bulls having the 6 points docked. So from the point of view of the other teams if you weren't going to challenge for the play offs 5 or 6 wins would keep you up.
Imagine yesterday's game if the Bulls were 2 points behind FC at kick-off?
But coming back to the topic even if Jimmy had arrived earlier he might not have been able to overcome the 6 points - but I think having him in place makes our prospects of building a stronger squad for next season is much higher as I suspect many of the players we have secured wouldn't have put pen to paper for Cummins. If the coach hadn't been changed we would be in a far worse place now.
