Gaskell Open To Staying At Bradford : Sat Feb 27, 2016 8:29 am  

Story in today's T&A with an interview with Gaskell in which he says he's open to remaining at Bradford beyond this year.

Big boost before a big game. About time this "partnership" between the club and paper actually put forward a well worked story.

But beyond that, it is a good boost to hear our best player wants to stay. Personally, I'm resigned to losing guys like him, O'Brien and a few others at the end of the year should we fail to go up. That's not down to anything like player disloyalty, but more that I don't think it's fair to them to expect them to stay in a lower division than they could easily be playing in.

Interesting - I had heard that apparently Gaskell was off to Leigh if Brierley made a deal with another club. Wouldn't usually put much stock in that, but it was also reported in Rugby League World last week. I'd hope this report in the T&A is a direct response to that.

Perfect non-story if I ever heard one. Gaskell hasn't spoken to anyone and has no plans to go elsewhere but 'wouldn't mind' staying at Odsal. For heaven's sake

I've heard form a good source he has a clause in his contract that he can leave for nothing at the end of the season when his contract is up

Well, Brierley has been linked with just about every SL club. (except Catalans - heard he p-refers pasties to snails or frogs legs! ) I'm sure Lee is also being linked with everyone too?! Like Ryan, Lee appears to have pledged his loyalty to his current club - and good on 'em for doing so. Whatever they, or their clubs say, it doesn't seem to stop the rumours and I reckon, come the end of this season, they both may well be on the move, if either (or both) of us doesn't get to SL.

I guess we all have to enjoy their skills while we can!

Gaskell will stay if we go up, and leave if we don't

Brierley will stay at Leigh if they go up, and leave if they don't

Not much else to say on it at the moment

Problem with this theory is I can't see either player waiting until end of Sept/early Oct to decide on their future.

If we lose Gaskell and fail to gain promotion, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up signing Pryce... He is out of contract this year and we could do worse if we stay in champ.

Neither do I, to be right. Both likely to sign with their current clubs but include the usual, "if a SL clubs comes in", clause, but who knows what the future will bring?

Great news for Bulls fans.

It would be great for me as a Leigh fan to get Gaskell, I rate him very highly, but the reality is he's a 6 *isn't he* ? & we have two 6's, Brierley is a 7 & not a regular type of 7 either, so I just don't see the Brierley out Gaskell in rumour going anywhere.

More likely as has been eluded to that both will extend with SL clauses being of prominence in the contracts.
