There were rumours at one point that Smith was lined up to eventually replace Jimmy.
I would now be very doubtful about contacting him if Jimmy fails this year. I know Wakey are not well off but I feel he should have seen the season out. This makes Smith look like a quitter. Could we ever trust him as we don't have lots of funding even if we go up. I also think it was Elliot who did the actual work when Smith was with us.
Has Smith just ended his coaching career?

What do people think of him now? Future coach or leave him alone and go with a younger "Morrison" type of coach.

This makes Smith look like a quitter.

As opposed to every other contract he's ever had? Has he seen any of them out? I think the specific point in the season where this one happened makes this worse, but he has never not done this.

That's all those rumours were just someone not happy with Jimmy and fantasising about Smithy as a replacement. There's no guarantee that if Jimmy gets it all right as a Coach, the Team will may not win promotion due to other circumstances!

I always thought Smithy had the reputation of being the 'brains' behind an organisation and of putting together the best team to work under him, rather than being a 'hands on' coach? I suppose that kind of system only works well when the club has the kind of money needed to bring in the quality under-coaches needed. It certainly worked when we had the likes of Matty Elliott and Nobby in the wings, but I'd suspect neither Wakey, nor us, are in that kind of position now.
